It was crucial that the partner we chose had a global footprint that matched ours, as well as the flexibility to adapt their tools and processes to our values. Cubiks demonstrated these attributes as well as a professionalism and quality orientation that fitted perfectly with our own ethos. With the input filtering in from the leadership assessment process, we have been able to strengthen succession planning. Thanks to Cubiks, we now have a world-class process to identify leaders and high potentials and put in place their development plans, ensuring that we have a very healthy succession pipeline.

Corporate HR Manager, ArcelorMittal

Let's develop leadership talent across 60 countries, with a variety of diverse cultures

A comprehensive approach to a complex challenge

Knowing where the talent is in the business means high potential staff can be developed and deployed effectively, helping them grow and progress in their careers and achieve their goals. Identifying leadership talent within the company also highlights if there are any talent gaps, enabling ArcelorMittal to source the people required so the business can continue to thrive. As part of the process,  ArcelorMittal wanted to explore how its leadership competencies were being demonstrated by its leaders in their daily working lives. Cubiks proposed an approach that combined tools measuring performance and personality.

Running the risk of de-personalising employees and their aspirations

It’s easy to get lost in such a massive machine.

Despite the impressive ArcelorMittal University (AMU) reaching its arms around multiple countries, its very easy to see how easy it could be for employees to slip through the gaps. Every person engages differently depending on their motivators, their culture and their experiences. It was incredibly important for Cubiks to ensure that development solutions could span multiple ways of learning and engaging. To ensure the formula was working before a global roll-out, Cubiks piloted the assessments with around 300 high-potentials via ArcelorMittal’s University.

Personalised solutions on a grand scale

Cubiks 360 Feedback questionnaire and world class PAPI personality assessments

Cubiks developed a bespoke Multi-Rater Assessment for ArcelorMittal. This was designed to encompass ArcelorMittal’s Leadership competencies, as well as the company’s own ‘10 Golden Rules’ for leaders. This flexible online feedback tool helps individuals identify their strengths and areas for potential growth. PAPI provides ArcelorMittal with valuable information about leaders’ preferences and behaviour in the workplace. The results are collated to provide assessors with interview guides based on ArcelorMittal competencies. These guides give an overall impression of an individual’s performance and potential, enabling assessors to facilitate insightful feedback sessions.

Professionalising HR and developing leaders globally

A 96% success rate across the top 120 leaders within ArcelorMittal

The initial trial was a great success and so the programme was implemented across the company globally. ArcelorMittal was named in global HR firm Aon Hewitt's list of top companies for leaders, ranking in the top seven companies in Europe.
