ArcelorMittal approached Cubiks with the need to develop and deploy high potential staff. Identifying where the talent is in the business means high potential staff can be developed and deployed effectively, helping them grow and progress in their careers and achieve their goals. Identifying leadership talent within the company also highlights if there are any talent gaps, enabling ArcelorMittal to source the people required so the business can continue to thrive.

As part of the process, ArcelorMittal wanted to explore how its leadership competencies were being demonstrated by its leaders in their daily working lives. Cubiks proposed an approach that combined tools measuring performance and personality.


Cubiks developed a bespoke MRA for ArcelorMittal. This was designed to encompass ArcelorMittal’s Leadership competencies, as well as the company’s ‘10 Golden Rules’ for leaders. This flexible online feedback tool helps individuals identify their strengths and areas for potential growth.

PAPI provides ArcelorMittal with valuable information about leaders’ preferences and behaviour in the workplace. The results are collated to provide assessors with interview guides based on ArcelorMittal competencies. These guides give an overall impression of an individual’s performance and potential, enabling assessors to facilitate insightful feedback sessions.


The project has enabled ArcelorMittal to achieve international success:

  • Cubiks piloted the assessments with around 300 high potentials via ArcelorMittal’s University. This trial was a great success and the programme has since been implemented across the company globally.

  • Cubiks has played an important role in identifying potential leaders throughout ArcelorMittal, including delivering hundreds of leadership assessments across Europe, North America, South America, CIS, South Africa and Asia.

  • ArcelorMittal was named in global HR firm Aon Hewitt’s list of top companies for leaders, ranking in the top seven companies in Europe. An independent panel of experts judged organisations based on criteria including strength of leadership practices and culture, examples of leader development on a global scale, alignment of business and leadership strategy, business performance and company reputation.
