Challenges

Subsea 7 brought Cubiks on board to help its junior managers and first level leaders around the world gain self-awareness to feed into their development. Cubiks was asked to create a solution that would integrate with the Subsea 7 Global Explorer Programme (GEP), an international scheme that facilitates the progression of staff with the capacity to rapidly progress into more senior international roles.

Solutions

Working closely with the Subsea 7 learning and development function, Cubiks designed and implemented a potential assessment solution for the company’s high potentials globally. This online assessment helps individuals explore their potential and discover the areas in which their talent lies. The output from the potential assessment provides employees with insight into their development areas and strengths, enabling them to prepare for the transition into more senior roles.

Cubiks put in place some follow-up steps to help participants get the most from the process. The focus was on discussing the potential assessment results and channelling the knowledge gained into development actions. Cubiks delivered one-to-one development feedback and coaching sessions for participants internationally. These sessions took place prior to participants beginning the GEP, to help them explore how they could use the insight from their assessments going into the programme.

Results

Through their partnership with Cubiks, Subsea 7 now have an approach to:

  • Those who have taken part in the company’s potential assessment process have gained valuable understanding of their strengths and development areas, and this has expedited their progression during the Global Explorer Programme.

  • Participants have reported that they value the feedback from the potential assessment. Feedback such as this increases self-awareness and consequently boosts development potential. Subsea 7’s participants have not experienced anything like this in the past. Traditionally, their training has been focused on technical areas, so they appreciate this new opportunity to work on their soft skills as well.

  • The results from Subsea 7’s potential assessments have fed into the GEP, providing insight that has enabled the company to enhance succession planning and put in place better measures to retain high potentials.
